Locate the feature you'd like to learn about and then find the corresponding numbered explanation below.

  1. File(s) to be Encrypted - Type the name of the file or the path to multiple files here. To encrypt multiple files use wildcards (*.*) in place of the filename or enter the path to a directory and check Include Subdirectories (#6 below).
  2. ... - Click this button to access the Open dialog that allows you to browse your computer for files.
  3. Drag files here - Drag and drop any files or directories/folders to this white area. If you drop a folder, be sure to check Include Subdirectories (#6 below). If you have anything in the File(s) to be Encrypted (#1) field MEP will try to encrypt those files in addition to any you have dragged here.
  4. Clr. Sel - Click this button to clear highlighted items from the dragged files list to the left.
  5. Clr. All - Click this button to clear all items from the dragged files list to the left.
  6. Include Subdirectories - Check this box if you want MEP to recreate directory structures on decryption.
  7. Encrypted Output File - Type the name of the encrypted file MEP will create here.
  8. ... - Click this button to open the Save As... dialog.
  9. Add timestamp to filename - Check this box if you want MEP to automatically create unique filenames for your encrypted files.
  10. Passphrase (case sensitive) - Enter your passphrase here. You will need this when you decrypt the file.

  12. Passphrase verification - Check this box and MEP will ask you to verify that you typed the right password.
  13. Create Self-Decrypting Executable - Check this box so that people without MEP can decrypt their files.
  14. Use E-mail - When this box is checked MEP will send the encrypted output file to the e-mail address shown in the Mail/FTP screen.
  15. Safe - Check this box to add a ".safe" extension to encrypted archive files created as self-decrypting EXEs. The ".safe" extension allows you to send your archive through e-mail systems that block EXE files.
  16. Use FTP - When this box is checked MEP will send the encrypted output file to the FTP server in the Mail/FTP screen.
  17. Securely delete files - When this box is checked MEP will irretrievably delete the files it has encrypted. Be careful with this one.
  18. Create logs of encrypted file contents - Check this box to create a log of the file names MEP encrypted. The log is saved to the c:\meplogs directory and automatically named MEPLog_mmddyyhhmmss.txt, where mmddyyhhmmss is equal to the month, day, year, hour, minute, and second that you started the encryption process.
