MEP is an encryption program that uses the AES algorithm, Rijndael, with a 256-bit key. MEP has many special features that make it stand out from the crowd of encryption software.
Encryption Features:
- Secure encryption with AES (Rijndael) with a 256-bit key.
- Automatic compression and archiving of multiple files.
- Creates a self-extracting, self-decrypting executable so the recipient doesn't need MEP to decrypt.
- Includes files in subdirectories and recreates the directory structure upon decryption.
- Passphrase verification option to protect against typos in the passphrase.
- Wizard option that walks you through the process of choosing files or folders to encrypt.
- Self-decryptor defaults to decrypt files to the current directory.
- Drag and drop interface for encryption of multiple folders and files in different directories.
E-Mail/FTP Features:
- Automatic e-mailing of the encrypted archive.
- Automatic FTP of the encrypted archive.
- Enhanced FTP communication with the ability to create directories on the FTP server.
- Includes a "Safe" option that allows you to send self-decrypting EXE files to users whose e-mail software doesn't allow them to view or open EXE files.
- SMTP login for mail servers that require logins.
Logging Features:
- Encrypted content logs to verify the paths and filenames of the files you encrypted.
- E-mail/FTP logging.
Usability Features:
- Saves profiles that contain all the settings of the current session, excluding the passphrase.
- Allows you to select and load a saved profile.
- Writes setting profiles to a standard INI file (c:\windows\mep.ini or c:\winnt\mep.ini), which allows for easy access or modification by third-party software.
- Accepts command-line arguments which, when combined with profiles, enable a user to completely automate the encryption/decryption process.
- Secure deletion of plaintext files.
- An option to add a timestamp to the filename of encrypted output file.
- No e-mail or FTP pop-up messages when using MEP from the command line.
- Added a View button to MEP and the self-decryptor that allows you to view your passphrase before encryption or decryption.
- All new detailed tutorials explaining step-by-step how to use MEP's most advanced features.
- Profile deletion.
New in Version 3.1:
- More reliable SMTP e-mail communication and logins (bug fix).
- AOL users can now use MEP e-mail features and automated encrypted file attachments. (See the updated E-mail/FTP Tutorial for AOL Mail setup and login instructions.)
- Robust e-mail error reporting via e-mail logs and pop-up messages. (MEP now logs and/or shows messages containing the SMTP error codes that occured so you can fix what is wrong.)
MEP is small enough, at about 450k, to fit on a floppy disk and move easily between computers. You can even run it directly from a floppy if you like. There is no installation necessary. Just copy the MEP.exe file to a computer and run it with a double-click.
If you like MEP and would like to continue using it an unlimited number of times the cost is $39.95 US. Please e-mail me a request. I accept credit cards through PayPal as well as a personal check or money order through the mail. When I receive your payment and your unique User Code, I will e-mail your Registration Code so that you can unlock the software.
